Australian Silicon Action Plan

The success of the global energy transition is heavily dependent on the global deployment of solar power technology on a large scale. By 2050, solar and other renewable energy sources are expected to be the world's primary source of energy generation.

Australia has world-leading solar resources and vast expanses of land, making it an ideal location for large-scale solar deployment. However, the country is currently reliant on foreign supply chains for the production of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology.

To address this, the Australian Silicon Action Plan, prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers, outlines the economic benefits of investing in an integrated silicon and solar cell supply chain in Australia. The ultimate goal is to establish a fully integrated silicon and solar cell supply chain in Australia, complete with end-of-life considerations such as recycling, and powered by renewable energy sources to achieve truly circular outcomes.
