A Holographic Computing Solution for Three-Dimensional Vision of Future Cities Using Real-Time Data Layers and IoT Integration

Wyndham City, situated in the western suburbs of metropolitan Melbourne, is dedicated to advancing urban innovation by collaborating with businesses, universities, and sector leaders to address the complex challenges confronting modern cities. Through the Australian Federal Government's Smart Cities and Suburbs Program, which aims to support projects leveraging innovative, technology-driven solutions to enhance urban liveability, Wyndham City Council secured a grant for its cutting-edge initiative, "Holographic Computing to Decode Our Cities."

Following the successful deployment of WynLens late last year, this complex project using relatively unexplored greenfield technology involves streaming three-dimensional city models and real-time data layers for presentation in augmented reality environments such as those offered by Microsoft HoloLens. The newly built platform is called CityLens because the holographic solution is designed to handle streamed three-dimensional data not only from Wyndham but from anywhere in Australia.

Wyndham City's Smart City portfolio holder, Cr Aaron An, said, "The project team is currently in the product and application development phase. As part of this work, we are working to understand how CityLens can be rolled out across the local government sector and with other partners such as universities and planning and utilities authorities."
