A Newcastle startup, EM Energy, is making significant strides in clean energy innovation with its breakthrough technology that converts organic waste into green hydrogen. The company has received $50,000 in funding through the MVP Ventures Program, designed to support the commercialization of high-impact, early-stage technologies.
EM Energy has developed the Organic Hydrogen Electrolyser Cell (OHEC), a system that generates green hydrogen from organic materials, eliminating the need for conventional energy inputs and heat typically required in traditional hydrogen production. This technology could revolutionize the hydrogen industry, which currently relies on fossil fuels for 95% of its production.
The startup is currently testing the OHEC technology at the University of Newcastle, aiming to refine the process and validate its capabilities. The grant will also assist in securing international patents for the technology, helping to unlock additional investment opportunities.
The MVP Ventures Program is part of a broader effort to foster innovation in NSW by providing grants to startups and small businesses with groundbreaking products or processes. The program aims to support the growth of the state’s innovation ecosystem, driving the commercialization of next-generation technologies.
