Smart ticketing passes 11 million trips in South East Queensland

With more than 11 million trips recorded, South East Queensland (SEQ) residents are embracing the convenience of Smart Ticketing for train and tram travel.

The innovative Smart Ticketing system, a $371 million investment, allows adult passengers to pay for their journeys using a variety of digital payment methods including credit cards, debit cards, smartphones or smartwatches.

The smart ticketing technology will be rolled out to all 2600 SEQ buses, Brisbane City Council's ferry fleet including CityCats and Southern Moreton Bay Island Ferries, marking a significant step forward in public transport payment options.

Customer trials will begin on Brisbane City Council ferries in the first half of 2024, followed by trials on buses and Southern Moreton Bay Island ferries.

While customers are encouraged to continue using their GO cards for the time being, the smart ticketing system will provide commuters with greater flexibility and ease of payment.
