Stanwell has reached a landmark deal to acquire the 436.5MW Tarong West Wind Farm, making it the largest publicly owned wind farm in Australia. This acquisition from global renewable energy developer RES will see Queenslanders owning 100% of the project and the clean energy it generates.
The wind farm, located south-west of Kingaroy in the South Burnett region, will consist of 97 wind turbines and is expected to produce enough clean energy to power around 230,000 homes. The project will create approximately 200 construction jobs and an additional 15 operational jobs, along with numerous indirect jobs in the region.
With development approval already granted, the project is now moving toward a Final Investment Decision, expected in early 2025. This acquisition marks a key milestone in Queensland’s renewable energy transformation, bringing significant benefits to local communities and the environment.
