Promoting innovation in forestry and wood products

Australia's forest and wood products sector is set to receive more than $6 million in new research funding through the National Institute for Forest Products Innovation's (NIFPI) Mount Gambier Centre.

Funding has been allocated for eight new projects within the existing NIFPI Mount Gambier Centre. Six research organisations will share the funding: Central Queensland University, University of South Australia, Flinders University, Swinburne University of Technology, University of Tasmania and Tree Breeding Australia.

The October 2022-2023 Federal Budget committed $100 million over five years to an expanded Australia-wide National Institute for Forest Products Innovation (Australia-wide NIFPI) to lead research and development to address national challenges in the forest and wood products sector.

To date, the Mount Gambier NIFPI has invested nearly $14.5 million in a total of 19 projects, drawing on contributions from government, industry and research.
