The Cook Government-led Schools Virtual Power Plant (VPP) project has reached a significant milestone with VPP technology now operational in schools in Geraldton and Kalbarri.
VPPs consist of a network of distributed energy resources, including rooftop solar panels and batteries, that contribute to and enhance the electricity grid. The technology is currently available at:
- Geraldton Senior High School;
- Waggrakine Primary School;
- Champion Bay Senior High School; and
- Kalbarri Regional District High School.
This initiative is a collaboration between the Department of Education and Synergy and involves seven regional schools.
In the near future, VPPs will be implemented in three additional regional schools:
- Hannans Primary School;
- Kalgoorlie Primary School; and
- O'Connor Primary School.
The regional expansion of this project has been made possible through support from the State Government's Schools Clean Energy Technology Fund.
