Tasmanians can get their digital skills on track with free support during Get Online Week, running from 14 to 20 October 2024. This national initiative, organized by Good Things Foundation Australia, offers hundreds of free digital skills events across the country, with local libraries playing a key role in providing in-person support.
Libraries Tasmania will offer free assistance to help residents set up devices and get online at several library locations, including Hobart, Glenorchy, Kingston, Rosny, Launceston, Devonport, and Burnie. Additional Get Online Week activities will be held at George Town, Devonport, Queenstown, and Wynyard libraries.
Events include workshops on spotting scams and online safety at St Helens and Scottsdale Libraries, virtual reality gaming at Launceston Library, and opportunities to connect with others at New Norfolk Library. Participants can also learn how to use free online resources available with a Libraries Tasmania membership, such as accessing e-books, newspapers, language learning tools, and films.
The initiative aims to help more Tasmanians take advantage of the digital world, ensuring they can connect, learn, and engage with a wide range of online services and educational content. Libraries provide an accessible and supportive environment for the community to build digital confidence and skills.
