Energex and Ergon apprentice recruitment surge boosts Queensland job opportunities

Energex and Ergon Energy have announced a record intake of around 160 new apprenticeships across Queensland in 2024.

As part of the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan, the electricity distribution networks plan to increase the number of apprenticeships by 10 per cent each year for the next decade. This initiative aims to support the introduction of advanced technologies such as batteries and systems to facilitate rooftop solar and electric vehicles (EVs).

With this annual increase in apprenticeship numbers, government-owned distribution networks are now one of the largest employers of apprentices in Queensland.

The commitment to providing quality employment opportunities is in line with the Palaszczuk Government's focus on developing a skilled workforce for the growing industry.

The apprentices will play a vital role in the construction and maintenance of the state's extensive 233,000km electricity network. They will also help develop innovative solutions to support the integration of evolving technologies into the network.

This development is particularly encouraging for individuals seeking employment in the energy transition sector. Thanks to public ownership, the number of apprenticeships in state-owned electricity distribution companies is set to grow steadily, giving candidates a better chance of securing a stable job in the energy industry.
