In a significant move, the government has unveiled the Local Energy Partnerships initiative, which aims to work with landholders and communities to ensure locals are the main beneficiaries of energy projects in their regions.
The initiative is backed by a significant investment of $9.25 million and underlines the Government's commitment to working with regional communities to achieve the best outcomes in the energy transition.
Following extensive consultation with local government representatives across the state, regional councils will be formally recognised as full partners in the initiative, working together to maximise the benefits of the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan.
As part of the Partnerships Initiative, the Government will establish the ground-breaking Community Leader Energy Councils to provide formalised channels for engagement in the first renewable energy zones.
This commitment will not only ensure that energy providers and local councils work together for the benefit of local communities, but will also provide opportunities for local businesses to actively participate in the supply chain.
