Residents of Armidale will soon have the opportunity to effortlessly navigate their city, as the latest location in NSW to launch a trial of a community e-scooter scheme.
The trial, which will run for 12 months from Thursday 7 September, will see e-scooters available for hire through Beam Mobility, covering most areas of Armidale from the University of New England to the city centre.
The e-scooters have a maximum speed of 20km/h on cycle lanes or roads with a speed limit of up to 50km/h, with a reduced speed of 10km/h on shared lanes. It's important to note that e-scooters are not allowed on pavements.
Participants in the trial must abide by its rules, including wearing a helmet, obeying speed limits and not driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
It's worth noting that privately owned e-scooters are still banned on NSW roads and road-related areas, which include footpaths, shared paths and bike lanes.
