Digital driving licences now available

Victorians now have the option to carry their driver's licence on their phone with the introduction of a new digital card system.

More than 4.5 million fully licensed drivers, motorcyclists and heavy vehicle operators are eligible to download Digital Driver Licences. To access their digital licence, users must set up their profile through the myVicRoads and Service Victoria apps.

The rollout follows consultation with a range of organisations that use photo ID, including bars, restaurants, supermarkets, retailers, Victoria Police and Australia Post.

A successful trial in Ballarat last year saw more than 15,000 people using digital licences through the myVicRoads and Service Victoria apps.

The digital licences have advanced privacy and security features, including a dynamic hologram and a timed QR code for verification. This ensures the authenticity of the licences and helps to prevent fraud. In addition, licences can be updated in real time for any changes to conditions or personal information.

Learners and probationary licence holders will be able to access their digital licences by 2025.
