Boosting manufacturing innovation and local jobs

Investment in cutting-edge manufacturing research and development (R&D) projects is underway to drive innovation, support job creation and strengthen Victoria's thriving manufacturing sector for global competitiveness.

As part of the $15 million Made in Victoria - Industry R&D Infrastructure Fund, Port Melbourne-based PolyNovo is one of 10 companies selected to receive funding. PolyNovo specialises in the design, development and manufacture of skin regeneration solutions using its patented NovoSorb biodegradable polymer technology, which is manufactured locally in Melbourne.

PolyNovo will use the funding to establish a state-of-the-art polymerisation laboratory to enhance its R&D capabilities and accelerate the development of new products. These include innovative implantable solutions tailored for hernia and breast reconstruction patients.

Other recipients of the fund include leading innovators such as Quantum Brilliance, Powerplus Energy, GTE Technology, IAPMO Oceania, ARKEUS and Effusiontech, across a range of sectors including new energy, health technology, food manufacturing, defence, aerospace and advanced technology.

These projects align with the Government's Made in Victoria: 2030 Manufacturing Statement, which identifies critical industries for development. Through initiatives such as the Medtech Market Growth Program and the Made in Victoria - Energy Technologies Manufacturing Program, the Labor Government is demonstrating its commitment to supporting local industry, driving innovation and strengthening supply chains across the state.
