Communities in the Latrobe Valley are seeing a transformative shift towards renewable energy projects, supported by initiatives to improve living standards, reduce emissions and promote energy resilience.
Yesterday, three significant projects from the Latrobe Valley Energy and Growth Program (LVEGP) were highlighted, demonstrating the region's commitment to sustainable energy practices.
The Gippsland Climate Change Network received $317,368 to install a 276kW solar array at the Yallambee Traralgon Village for the Aged. This initiative has delivered significant benefits, including significant bill savings, emissions reductions and increased energy independence.
Another notable project is the $180,000 Secure Back-Up Power Supply Project at Yarram Recreation Reserve. This solar and battery system will provide reliable power during power outages, benefiting both the reserve's operations and emergency services.
Lardner Park is also home to the Floating Solar Project, a 50kW floating solar system funded with $209,149. This innovative project not only generates renewable energy, but also conserves water and increases panel efficiency through evaporative cooling.
These initiatives, supported by the LVEGP, represent a collective effort to promote the adoption of renewable energy, create employment opportunities and support socio-economic development in the Latrobe Valley.
