WA Launches First-Ever Home Battery Rebates and Loan Scheme

Western Australia’s new home battery rebate and loan scheme opens today. The WA Residential Battery Scheme helps households store their renewable energy, cut energy costs, and support the state’s clean energy goals.

Residents can now apply to buy a home battery with financial support. Eligible Synergy customers can get rebates up to $5,000. Horizon Power customers may receive rebates up to $7,500. Households with both battery storage and solar panels could save around $1,500 on energy bills each year.

The scheme also offers no-interest loans of up to $10,000 to help cover installation costs. These loans are available to households earning less than $210,000 per year. Loan terms last up to 10 years to make payments easier.

Customers must buy from accredited battery retailers and choose approved products. Applications for rebates and loans are managed by Plenti Pty Ltd, the scheme administrator.

Participating households join a Virtual Power Plant (VPP). This allows them to share stored energy to help balance the electricity system. Sharing energy stabilises the grid and benefits the wider community.

Together with a Federal program, the scheme is set to help about 100,000 households store more renewable energy. The WA scheme is funded with $337 million and works alongside the Federal Government’s $2.3 billion Cheaper Home Batteries Program. This partnership will enable up to five times more homes to join than planned by the state scheme alone.

By joining, households reduce their energy costs and help build a cleaner, more reliable energy system for Western Australia.
