The 2025-26 Budget brings a record level of funding to the Sunshine Coast, focusing on important infrastructure projects and world-class venues for upcoming events. A major part of this investment supports the early works on the Mooloolah River Interchange. This upgrade will improve travel by reducing congestion and increasing capacity on key routes.
The Mooloolah River Interchange is an essential step for The Wave, a new public transport system designed to serve the growing population of the region. The Wave will provide high-frequency metro-style train services from Beerwah through Birtinya and the Maroochydore CBD to the Sunshine Coast Airport. Work on the heavy rail link from Beerwah to Birtinya will also begin soon.
The Budget includes a plan to ease traffic pressure in Caloundra. The Caloundra Congestion Busting Plan focuses on road upgrades, better intersections, and new connection roads to help drivers reach home faster and safer.
Funding is allocated for five venues needed for the upcoming Games. This includes $847 million to build and upgrade facilities like the Sunshine Coast Stadium in Kawana. Additional community support includes $10 million to rebuild the Kawana Waters Surf Life Saving Club, $1 million each to upgrade Currimundi Community Hall and Currimundi United Football Clubhouse, and $5 million to expand Gateway Care, a food rescue service in Caloundra.
These projects mark a significant investment in the Sunshine Coast’s future. The upgrades aim to improve transport, support community groups, and prepare the region for rapid growth.
