Renewable Workforce Roundtable Focuses on Secure Local Energy Jobs

The NSW 2030 Renewable Workforce Roundtable took place in the Hunter region to discuss building the workforce necessary for the clean energy transition. The roundtable brought together stakeholders from a wide range of organizations, including industry bodies, unions, educators, and government agencies, to explore strategies for creating local, secure jobs in renewable energy.

The focus was on ensuring that the shift towards renewable energy generates new employment opportunities in both metropolitan and regional areas of NSW. One key takeaway from the discussions was the importance of developing skills and training programs to support this transition.

The outcomes of the roundtable will contribute to the NSW 2030 Renewable Workforce Plan, which is designed to guide the state's renewable energy workforce development. The plan includes initiatives like $275 million in grants under the Net Zero Manufacturing Initiative, designed to foster the development and manufacturing of clean technology and create new jobs. Additionally, the state is introducing new TAFE NSW microskill courses tailored to the renewable energy sector, such as Hydrogen Energy Fundamentals.
