Regional NSW Powers Up with More EV Chargers

Electric vehicle drivers will soon have more places to recharge while exploring regional New South Wales. More than 900 new charging ports will be installed across 376 popular destinations, making road trips easier for EV owners.

The chargers will be located at hotels, motels, holiday parks, wineries, cafes, museums, and entertainment venues. Well-known sites such as The Big Banana in Coffs Harbour, Scenic World in the Blue Mountains, and Symbio Wildlife Park on the South Coast are among the recipients.

The project is supported by $4 million from the latest round of the EV Destination Charging Grants Program. The initiative encourages the installation of charging stations at key tourist locations to support the state’s growing number of electric vehicles.

So far, the program has provided $5.2 million for more than 1,300 chargers at over 500 sites. The new installations will expand this network and help ease concerns about range limits for EV drivers travelling outside major cities.

A third funding round is now open, offering $12 million to expand coverage along major regional road routes. Charge point operators can apply for support to install 24kW to 100kW chargers in eligible zones until 31 January 2025.

The program complements the broader rollout of fast chargers every 100 kilometres along key highways. Together, these initiatives aim to make EV travel more practical and appealing while supporting tourism and local economies across the state.
