The Palaszczuk Government is introducing the Climate Smart Energy Savers program, which will provide cash-back incentives of between $300 and $1000 for the purchase of eligible energy-efficient appliances. With a budget of $22 million, the program aims to reduce the cost of living for Queensland households. Funding is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis until exhausted.
Low-income earners with a taxable income of $66,667 or less can claim the highest rebate, while all Queenslanders are eligible for cost-of-living assistance on selected appliances. Switching from 2-star to 4-star appliances could result in significant annual energy cost savings for households and help reduce CO2 emissions.
For example, switching to a 4-star washing machine could save around $117 per year and opting for a heat pump water heating system could save more than $1100 per year. This initiative follows the Palaszczuk Government's efforts to address the cost of living, including electricity rebates of $550 for all households and up to $1072 for seniors and concession card holders.
