A new virtual learning program is expanding access to education for students across Queensland. The Queensland Virtual Academy will livestream specialist subjects to more than 4,000 students in 365 state schools this year. The $12 million investment ensures students in rural and regional areas can study a wider range of subjects no matter where they live.
The academy connects students with expert teachers through live online lessons. It helps schools that cannot offer certain subjects due to limited staff or resources. Subjects include Specialist Mathematics, Senior Physics, Japanese, and Senior Psychology. STEM programs are also available for students in Years 5 to 9 who show strong interest and skills in science and technology.
The Queensland Virtual Academy removes barriers for students in smaller communities who want to pursue careers that require specialist study. It allows them to prepare for professions in areas such as medicine, engineering, and research.
The program also supports teachers by providing new tools and methods to engage with students in remote locations. It helps lift education standards and ensures more young Queenslanders can reach their potential.
Education leaders believe the academy can grow further to include more subjects and reach more schools. It is seen as a model for future learning, combining technology with traditional teaching to improve access and outcomes.
