Queensland Outlines Five-Year Energy Roadmap

Queensland is developing a new five-year Energy Roadmap to guide the delivery of affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity across the state. The plan will be released by the end of 2025 and will focus on improving generation capacity and long-term energy security.

More than $400 million is already being invested in maintaining government-owned power stations under the Electricity Maintenance Guarantee. The works include major upgrades at Callide B and refurbishment of the Tarong Power Station cooling tower. These projects aim to strengthen the grid and extend the life of existing assets.

Oversight of Queensland Hydro, the company delivering the Borumba pumped hydro project, will be transferred to Queensland Investment Corporation. The change is designed to improve commercial oversight and delivery efficiency for the major renewable energy project.

A $50 million investment has also been committed to advance the Mount Rawdon pumped hydro project through CleanCo. This forms part of a broader effort to develop smaller, flexible energy storage projects.

CS Energy has received $134 million to progress the 400-megawatt Brigalow Gas Peaker Project at Kogan Creek. New gas generation projects are also moving forward at Swanbank and Gatton, supporting system reliability during peak demand periods.

Queensland’s young and diverse energy mix continues to underpin its transition toward a balanced and sustainable power system.
