Advancing Western Australia's transition to electric buses, a contract has been awarded to install charging infrastructure at a key bus station in Perth.
JET Charge Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to design, supply, install and commission the electric bus charging infrastructure at Elizabeth Quay Bus Station.
The $1.65 million contract includes 18 charging points and the associated management system and software, making Elizabeth Quay the first electric bus-ready station in WA.
Installation will begin in early 2024, with Perth CAT electric buses, each capable of travelling 330 kilometres on a single charge, expected to be in operation by mid-2025.
This project is part of a $250 million initiative jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian governments to facilitate the introduction of 130 new electric buses and support infrastructure upgrades.
The initiative follows a successful trial of four electric buses in Joondalup, which collectively carried over 250,000 passengers, travelled 140,000 kilometres and saved 230 tonnes of carbon dioxide in its first year.
