OpenAI to Launch $7 Billion Data Centre in Sydney

OpenAI will build a $7 billion data centre in Eastern Creek, Sydney. This will be the Asia Pacific’s first OpenAI for Countries facility. The project comes shortly after OpenAI opened its first Australian office in Sydney.

The data centre will strengthen NSW’s position as a hub for technology and innovation. It will support the digital economy, provide AI infrastructure, and create new jobs in technology, manufacturing, and STEM fields.

NSW already has over 90 data centres, with another 20 under assessment. The OpenAI project will expand the state’s capacity for cloud computing, AI research, and digital services.

The development will support skills growth and local innovation. It aims to help businesses adopt advanced technology and improve competitiveness. The project will also focus on responsible AI use and sustainability.

The facility is expected to boost economic activity in Sydney and across the state. It will provide opportunities for local workers and strengthen pathways for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics careers.
