NSW Unveils New Digital Hub for Pet Owners

Pet owners across New South Wales now have a simpler way to manage their furry mates, thanks to a revamped digital platform launched this week. The updated NSW Pet Registry is making it a breeze to register cats and dogs, report a missing pet, or keep tabs on key dates like vet visits—all with just a few clicks.

The system’s designed for anyone with a microchipped pet, letting them log in through Service NSW to sort out registration fees online. No more trudging down to the local council with a stack of paperwork—what used to take days can now be wrapped up in minutes. It’s also got handy features like instant ownership transfers and real-time reminders for things like desexing, plus the option to update details like a new address on the fly.

For those worried about a lost pet, the registry lets users build a profile with photos and contact info, boosting the odds of a reunion if a cat or dog goes walkabout. It’s already proving popular, with over 81,000 owners and more than 6,000 breeders jumping on board since the upgrade went live.

Microchipping and registration are must-dos for cats and dogs in NSW, and this new setup aims to make that easier. Pets adopted from council pounds or rehoming groups often come microchipped and eligible for free registration, but keeping details current is key to getting them back home if they stray. The fees collected also help fund local services like animal pounds.

Years in the making, this digital overhaul replaces a clunky system that’s been around for over two decades. There’s more to come, too—plans are in the works to add extra features for councils, vets, and rehoming outfits down the track. For now, it’s a win for pet owners looking to cut the hassle and keep their companions sorted.
