Electric vehicle drivers in NSW will soon have more options to recharge with 159 new chargers set for 48 regional locations. The expansion will cover roads from Bourke to Murray and Tweed to Tumut. Chargers will be installed at rest stops, visitor centres, supermarkets, and holiday destinations.
The new chargers will be powered by 100% renewable energy and will charge vehicles faster. Installation will take place over the next year. Six companies will build the infrastructure, including EVSE, KarChargers, NRMA, Woolworths Group, ReGen EV Charging Install, and Rise Energy. Exact locations are being finalised with local councils.
This round of chargers is supported by $5.9 million in government funding and $3.2 million in private investment. The project supports regional tourism and local economies by encouraging drivers to stop, explore, and spend in communities while charging.
Local Government Areas receiving multiple ports include Shoalhaven (19), Mid-Coast (10), Lismore (9), Murray River (9), Narromine (8), Dubbo (7), and Federation (7). Other areas such as Kempsey, Kyogle, Junee, and many more will also benefit.
NSW has now funded close to 3,300 new chargers at more than 1,200 sites. This expansion reduces range anxiety for EV drivers and makes it easier to travel across the state.
