Cyber security graduates are invited to apply for a new round of paid internships focused on protecting Victorians from online threats.
Expressions of interest have opened for the third intake of the Cyber Internship Program. The program will run from February to August 2026.
The six-month internship builds on strong results from the 2024 and 2025 intakes. Participants work with experienced cyber specialists across public services. The work focuses on reducing risks to digital systems used by government agencies and the wider community.
Interns gain practical experience in cyber incident response, threat intelligence, security operations, plus other core areas. The program supports early career learning through real workplace tasks.
Places are open to graduates of the Certificate IV in Cyber Security. This course is delivered through the Free TAFE program. The program offers access to more than 80 free qualifications and short courses. The goal is to address skills gaps across key industries.
Early results show strong outcomes. Nine of the 12 interns from the first two intakes moved into related roles within the Victorian public sector.
Cyber security skills remain in high demand. A recent national cyber threat report recorded more than 84,000 cybercrime reports during the 2024–25 financial year. This equals one report every six minutes.
The Cyber Internship Program aims to grow the local cyber workforce. The program also seeks to reduce the skills shortage in this fast-growing field.
Applications open today. Applications close on 2 November 2025. More information is available at careers.vic.gov.au.
