New Guide Empowers Landholders During NSW’s Renewable Energy Transition

NSW Renewable Energy and Transmission Landholder Guide

A new guide has been launched to support landowners and communities across New South Wales as the state expands its renewable energy infrastructure. Titled NSW Renewable Energy and Transmission Landholder Guide, the resource is designed to help landholders navigate the complex landscape of energy development, including wind, solar, battery, and transmission projects.

Created through a collaboration between NSW Farmers, the Queensland Farmers Federation, and relevant energy agencies, the guide offers clear, practical advice for engaging with energy developers, understanding legal rights, and managing the planning and design process for infrastructure on private land.

The guide includes:

  • Tools to support negotiations with renewable energy developers;
  • Step-by-step explanations of transmission project processes;
  • Clarification of the roles, rights, and responsibilities of all parties involved.

It is intended for both landowners directly involved in projects and community members seeking to better understand the broader impacts of the energy transition.

The guide follows an agreement between farming and energy organisations to improve communication and transparency during the rollout of the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ). The REZ is expected to attract up to $20 billion in private investment by 2030 and support approximately 5,000 construction jobs in regional NSW.

The initiative complements a broader investment program, including $128 million in community grants to support infrastructure and services in regions hosting renewable energy projects.

The guide is now available in both digital and print formats via the NSW Farmers website.
