New Grants to Help Communities Save Energy and Cut Costs

NSW has launched a $5 million grant program to support community energy groups and not-for-profit organisations. The program aims to help more households reduce energy costs, adopt renewable technologies, and access government rebates.

The Community Energy Activation Program will provide funding of up to $600,000 to eligible groups. These organisations can use the grants to expand existing programs or create new initiatives that meet the needs of their communities.

Activities supported by the grants include:

  • Hosting community education workshops
  • Offering face-to-face guidance tailored to household needs
  • Expanding existing energy education programs to a wider audience
  • Developing digital tools or resources for energy solutions
  • Hiring staff to provide local guidance and support
  • Creating marketing and communication materials
  • Delivering innovative programs to address community energy needs

The grants are open to NSW-based community energy groups and not-for-profit organisations that support household energy consumers. Applications close at 5pm on Monday, 16 February 2026. An online webinar for interested groups will be held at 11am, Tuesday 9 December.
