A new $1 million grants program is helping NSW businesses explore the benefits of switching to energy-efficient heat pumps. The initiative aims to lower energy costs, reduce carbon emissions, and support the move away from fossil fuels.
The Heat Pump Feasibility Grants provide up to $30,000 per project, covering 75% of the cost of feasibility studies. These studies will help businesses understand if heat pumps are a practical and cost-effective choice for their operations.
Specialist consultants will assess energy data, identify design options, and outline any barriers to installation. Each study will include a detailed evaluation to determine whether a heat pump system suits the site.
Heat pumps are used across industries for process heat, commercial space heating, pool heating, and laundry hot water. They are more efficient than gas boilers, using much less energy while producing fewer emissions. A typical gas boiler runs at about 90% efficiency, while heat pumps can reach more than 400%.
The program encourages businesses to make informed choices about upgrading heating and cooling systems. It supports greater sustainability and long-term energy savings.
Funding is available for NSW businesses that use between 5,000 and 100,000 gigajoules of gas per site each year and meet eligibility criteria. Applications are open through the Heat Pump Feasibility Grants webpage.
