A new clean energy project will take shape near Moree. The facility will produce green hydrogen and ammonia using renewable energy. The project aims to reduce emissions in farming.
The Good Earth Green Hydrogen and Ammonia project will be one of the first large-scale facilities of its kind in New South Wales. The site will support both energy production and agriculture.
Construction of the project is expected to create at least 60 jobs. Around 10 permanent roles will remain once the facility begins operation. The project value exceeds $70 million.
The plant will produce enough green hydrogen to create about 4,500 tonnes of ammonia each year. The ammonia will be used as fuel and fertiliser. This output will support local farming needs.
The facility will supply the Keytah cotton farm owned by Sundown Pastoral Company. The farm will reduce its use of diesel. The farm will also reduce its use of fertilisers made from fossil fuels.
Extra supply from the plant will be available to other farms in the region. This will help reduce emissions across local agricultural activities. Farming operations often rely on fuel and fertiliser with high carbon output.
The project has reached financial close. Work will now move toward construction and delivery. The design allows ammonia to be produced close to where it is used. This reduces the need for long-distance transport.
The project is a joint effort between Hiringa Energy Pty Ltd and Sundown Pastoral Company. It will also help build a supply chain for green hydrogen and ammonia in northern New South Wales.
The facility shows a shift in how energy is used in agriculture. Clean fuel options are becoming more common in regional areas. New systems aim to support both productivity and lower emissions.
Local farms are expected to benefit from stable fuel supply. The project also supports new technology in the farming sector. It reflects a broader move toward cleaner energy use in rural industries.
