Around 90 global participants in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program (REAP) will gather in Perth and regional Western Australia for a week-long series of events.
An initiative of the MIT Sloan School of Management in Boston, the two-year program guides representatives from regional centres through workshops, case studies and ecosystem analysis to identify development opportunities.
WA's participation in Cohort 9, along with other global regions, was supported by the WA Government, Rio Tinto and Woodside. Representatives from a range of organisations including the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, the City of Perth, Spacecubed and Curtin University make up Team WA.
Activities during the week include the launch of Blak Angels, a First Nations angel investing group, the City of Fremantle's Innovation Strategy launch, the MIT Perth Symposium and a visit to Rio Tinto's 'mine of the future' at the Gudai Darri mine site near Newman.
The outcomes of the initiative will support efforts to decarbonise the resources sector, cement WA's position as a leader in research and innovation, and drive economic diversification and job creation.
