Improving digital literacy among students and educators through ACMI's educational initiatives

The Allan Labor Government is committed to developing the creative and digital skills of students and teachers through a comprehensive education program delivered by ACMI, the National Museum of Screen Culture in Fed Square.

The 2024 ACMI Education Program was recently unveiled, offering a range of creative learning opportunities. These experiences are carefully designed to equip primary and secondary students with new digital skills and knowledge, supported by the Department of Education's Strategic Partnerships Program and Creative Victoria. ACMI's education program focuses on emerging technologies in film, television, digital games and digital art.

At the museum's Gandel Digital Future Labs, students of all ages will take part in interactive workshops on filmmaking, narrative game design, animation and more. These activities are designed to develop problem-solving, collaboration and storytelling skills, as well as media and digital literacy. The programme also includes interactive lectures, both on-site and online, which are linked to classroom learning. Film programmes are incorporated to encourage critical thinking and school group visits are organised to ACMI's world-class exhibitions.

Last year, more than 98,000 primary and secondary students from various parts of Victoria and more than 2,000 teachers participated in ACMI's education program. The program's reach is expected to continue to grow, with more than 110,000 students expected to participate by 2024.

ACMI's website offers valuable online educational resources for teachers, including free lesson plans for integrating video games into the classroom. In addition, recordings from the professional learning series "Demystifying Artificial Intelligence: Unlocking AI's Potential for Teachers" are also available to educators.
