Glenrowan Solar Farm begins construction

As part of the Andrews Labor Government's renewable energy targets, a new solar farm, the Glenrowan Solar Farm, has started construction. The solar farm is expected to generate enough energy to power around 45,000 Australian homes and create 150 full-time jobs.

The 102 megawatt (MW) solar farm is the first project to commence construction under the second Victorian Renewable Energy Target Auction (VRET2). Under VRET2, the Government will fast-track six projects that will deliver 623 MW of new renewable generation capacity and up to 365 MW and 600 megawatt hours (MWh) of new battery energy storage.

These initiatives will drive investment and local jobs and help the state meet its target of 100% renewable electricity for all Victorian Government operations by 2025. The program is expected to create 920 direct jobs and attract $1.48 billion in investment in new renewable energy projects, with $1 billion spent in local supply chains during construction as a result of strong local content requirements.

These projects are in line with the Labor Government's goal of achieving 95% renewable energy by 2035, creating 59,000 clean energy jobs and helping the state achieve net zero emissions by 2045.
