An initiative to equip more Victorians with the skills they need to succeed in digital careers is underway, with increased investment to support transitions into various technology roles.
Applications are now open for the latest rounds of the Digital Jobs program, which will provide 400 mid-career individuals with 12 weeks of free training in areas such as data analytics, digital marketing, IT operations, user experience, programming and web development.
At the end of the training, participants can apply for a 12-week internship to gain practical experience in their chosen field. The programme aims to address critical skills shortages and facilitate entry into the growing technology sector.
A recent $4.4 million investment supports these efforts, helping workers transform their career prospects and fill key roles in Victoria's technology industry. In addition, the program will continue to support 600 existing participants with ongoing employment services.
Since its launch in August 2021, the program has helped more than 5,000 people transition into digital careers, with 59% of participants being female, 63% speaking a language other than English and 40% over the age of 40. Participants from non-digital backgrounds experienced an average increase in weekly wages of $500 after transitioning into digital roles.
The programme has over 1,300 registered employers, including major organisations such as Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, who have successfully placed programme participants into permanent roles.
The Digital Jobs program is part of a broader range of initiatives aimed at building digital skills and talent, including the Women in Security program and the Cremorne Digital Hub.
Applications are now open for the next intake starting in early August, with another round starting in mid-November. For more information or to apply, visit vic.gov.au/digitaljobs.
