As part of the Regional Community Forum hosted by the Central Highlands, government representatives marked the selection of Emerald as Central Queensland's next large-scale, grid-connected battery site.
This new battery is one of twelve upcoming large-scale grid-connected batteries designed to maximise the benefits of rooftop solar for Queensland communities.
Home to more than 1,920 solar systems, Emerald will use the battery to harness affordable renewable energy, resulting in lower electricity bills and helping to reduce the cost of living in the region.
"Central Queensland's renewable energy transformation is a positive force for employment, economic growth and environmental sustainability, driven by our publicly owned transmission and distribution companies, Powerlink and Ergon Energy.
"At the same time, construction is underway on a new 50MW battery near Gracemere, which will provide enough power for almost every home in Gracemere. This development revolutionises the management of energy supply and demand during peak periods.
"It enables the injection of more cost-effective renewable energy into the Queensland SuperGrid, supporting additional job opportunities in our public power system for Central Queensland workers."
