Digital Twin Technology to Enhance State's Data Capabilities

Western Australia is set to improve its digital capabilities with the launch of the Spatial WA program, a new initiative designed to accelerate land development approvals and streamline infrastructure delivery across the state. The project, backed by $140 million in funding from the Digital Capability Fund, aims to maximize the use of spatial data to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of key government projects.

Spatial WA will create a 4D digital twin of the state, combining both spatial and non-spatial data to offer predictive modelling and analytical insights. This will allow agencies to make better, data-driven decisions, reduce delays in planning applications, and improve maintenance and land development processes. By providing precise location data for roads, buildings, networks, pipelines, and other infrastructure, the platform will help speed up approvals, reduce costs, and engage communities more effectively in infrastructure planning.

The project is expected to support government priorities in infrastructure delivery, planning reforms, and emergency response. The funding, which is set to be disbursed over a 10-year period, will enable the creation of a digital platform that provides accurate and accessible data to improve government processes and public services.
