Derby Regional Hospital is embracing sustainability by reducing its carbon footprint and energy costs with the activation of a $1.4 million large-scale rooftop solar system.
The newly commissioned 910-panel, 364-kilowatt rooftop photovoltaic (PV) system, equivalent to about 60 residential solar systems, has been installed at the hospital in Kimberley.
Horizon Power, WA's regional energy supplier, worked with the WA Country Health Service to implement this state-of-the-art solar system.
The system is expected to reduce the hospital's annual variable energy costs by $70,000 and cut its annual energy consumption by 24 per cent, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 300 tonnes per year.
This solar installation is in line with the Cook Government's commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
