Big Battery Boost Within the Latrobe Valley

A new large-scale battery has started operation in the Latrobe Valley. The system will support Victoria’s growing network of renewable energy storage and help provide affordable power to homes and businesses.

The 100-megawatt Latrobe Valley Battery Energy Storage System is located beside the Morwell terminal station. It was developed and is operated by Tilt Renewables. The company manages wind and solar projects across Australia and has added this battery to strengthen local energy supply.

The battery will store electricity and release it when demand is high. It aims to improve grid reliability, reduce power costs, and support a stable energy supply across the region.

Energy storage plays a key role in Victoria’s shift toward renewable power. The state now has 12 large-scale batteries in operation, with a total output of 1,028 megawatts. The Latrobe Valley project joins other major systems such as the 300-megawatt Victorian Big Battery and the 600-megawatt Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub.

This new facility marks another step in expanding energy storage capacity and supporting cleaner electricity generation across the state.
