Australia’s Largest Publicly Owned Wind Farm Moves Forward to Drive Clean Energy and Jobs

The 436.5MW Tarong West Wind Farm project is moving ahead in the South Burnett region, marking a significant step toward Queensland’s renewable energy future. Developed by Stanwell Corporation in partnership with global renewable energy developer RES, the wind farm will feature 97 turbines and produce enough clean energy to power 230,000 homes.

Backed by $776.1 million from the Queensland Government’s Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Jobs Fund, the project is expected to create 200 jobs during its construction phase and 15 ongoing roles once operational. It is part of Queensland's broader energy strategy to increase renewable energy production to 70% by 2032 and 80% by 2035.

In addition to its economic benefits, the project will also support regional employment and contribute to the local community. Environmental considerations have been carefully addressed, with measures in place to protect koala habitats and rehabilitate areas disturbed by construction.

Construction is set to begin in 2025, with the wind farm expected to make a significant contribution to the state’s clean energy goals.
