Port Kembla marks a historic milestone with the opening of Australia's first commercial hydrogen refuelling station for zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles. Located at the Coregas Port Kembla Industrial Gas Facility, the H2 Station is a ground-breaking initiative aimed at decarbonising the region's fleet of 7000 heavy vehicles.
Partially funded by a $500,000 grant from the NSW Government, the Coregas H2 Station has received strong support from the NSW Minister for Regional Affairs, Tara Moriarty, who highlighted the importance of this project in leading the way to a cleaner, greener future.
"The NSW Government is proud to have supported this world-leading project to refuel Australia's first hydrogen-powered heavy-duty vehicles," Minister Moriarty said. "The H2 station will be the first practical piece of infrastructure to decarbonise the region's 7000 heavy vehicles."
Minister for the Illawarra and South Coast, Ryan Park, sees Port Kembla as a key player in Australia's emerging hydrogen sector, highlighting the potential for zero-emission hydrogen-powered trucks to transform the transport sector while creating jobs and attracting investment.
Alan Watkins, Executive General Manager of Coregas, expressed his gratitude for the NSW Government's support and highlighted the station's role in supporting up to 10 zero emission hydrogen vehicles per day, demonstrating the viability of hydrogen-powered fleet vehicles.
The Coregas H2 station, a pilot project funded by Round 4 of the Port Kembla Community Investment Fund, represents a major step in the conversion of Coregas' distribution fleet and places Port Kembla at the forefront of the global hydrogen industry. The Port Kembla Community Investment Fund aims to support projects that revitalise Port Kembla and its surrounding areas for the benefit of the community.
