WA EV Network reaches halfway point

The WA EV Network reaches a significant milestone with the opening of Synergy's Jerramungup electric vehicle (EV) fast charging station.

  • WA EV Network reaches halfway mark, expands to 25 sites
  • Six new chargers bring energy to regional and remote WA
  • Over 5,500 charging sessions completed across the network

The WA EV Network has reached the halfway mark with the opening of Synergy's Jerramungup electric vehicle (EV) fast charger.

The Hyden EV fast charger is the 26th of the planned 49 sites across Western Australia to come online. Synergy and Horizon Power are strategically installing the chargers along major travel routes, ensuring an average distance of less than 200 kilometres between each charger.

When complete, the network will stretch 7,000 kilometres from Kununurra in the north to Esperance in the south-west, and east to Kalgoorlie and Eucla.

The 150kW Jerramungup charger, located on the southern coast, allows EV drivers to recharge their vehicles in about 20 minutes, connecting Albany to Esperance.

In recent months, EV fast chargers have been installed at Warmun, Derby, Halls Creek, Norseman and Hamelin Pool, with additional stations under construction at Billabong, Minilya, Kalgoorlie, Kojonup, Brookton, Ravensthorpe and Bunbury.

Since the first charger went live in Geraldton in April 2023, more than 5,500 charging sessions have been completed across the WA EV Network.

Scheduled for completion by mid-2024, the WA EV Network is part of the Cook Labor Government's $43.5 million investment in WA's EV infrastructure, which aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles to support the state's path to net zero emissions by 2050.
