Dozens of additional schools across the state will benefit from solar panel installations, thanks to a $5.4 million investment through the Greener Government School Buildings program. This initiative, part of a larger $20 million effort, aims to help schools lower their energy costs and reduce their carbon emissions.
The new round of funding will allow schools to join the 404 already participating, contributing to Victoria's goal of net-zero emissions by 2045. Once completed, the program is expected to:
- Save schools over $4.5 million on energy bills annually.
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 21,900 tonnes, equivalent to taking more than 3,000 cars off the road.
- Generate enough energy to power almost 2,000 homes, with a total installed capacity of 16,200 kilowatts across the school network.
The program removes the upfront costs of solar panel installation, making it easier for schools to adopt clean energy solutions and reduce their environmental impact.
