EV charging gets a boost in South Australia

South Australian electric vehicle owners will have greater access to better charging stations thanks to a series of State Government grants.

Electric vehicle owners shopping at Pasadena Shopping Centre, Victor Harbor Beachfront Holiday Park and Flinders University are among the organisations receiving funding for electric vehicle smart charging stations harnessing South Australia’s renewable energy resources, supporting the grid and leading to reduced energy costs for all electricity consumers.

Smart charging services will be supported by a 1,000kW/1,250kWh battery energy storage system (BESS) which will be the first built at a South Australian shopping centre.

The system will be charged during periods of high renewable energy generation in South Australia, benefiting all South Australians by contributing to the reliability, security and affordability of our clean energy system.

Smart chargers, providing up to 100kW of power to a vehicle, will fully charge an electric vehicle in 15 to 45 minutes as a customer enters the shopping centre.

These trials will complement South Australia’s state-wide EV Charging Network being rolled out by the RAA, with over 500 charging stations, at 140 sites in 52 locations across the state.
