Western Australia Launches New Digital Strategy to Accelerate Industry Transformation

Western Australia is taking a significant step towards a fully digitised future with the launch of its Digital Industries Acceleration Strategy (WA: Digitally Evolved). The new strategy is designed to accelerate the digital transformation of local businesses and industries, contributing to the state's growing digital economy.

The strategy complements existing initiatives like the Digital Strategy for the Western Australian Government 2021-2025 and the Digital Inclusion in WA Blueprint. It specifically targets the development of the digital sector and aims to foster a more robust connection between businesses and the growing digital capabilities in areas such as robotics, automation, and remote operations. These efforts are part of broader plans to diversify WA’s economy and stimulate future industry growth.

WA: Digitally Evolved has set three main goals:

  1. Building a vibrant and expanding digital sector in WA.
  2. Helping local businesses continuously enhance their digital capabilities.
  3. Supporting the transformation of industries through the adoption of digital technologies.

To achieve these objectives, the strategy outlines five priority areas:

  • Advocacy and education
  • Advisory and technical support
  • Finance and supply opportunities
  • Data and digital facility sharing
  • Opportunity facilitation

Western Australia’s digital sector is already a key contributor to the state’s economy, with an estimated value of $7.3 billion and employing over 60,000 people. The workforce in the digital sector is growing at a rate 2.6 times faster than the total workforce in WA, highlighting the expanding role of digital technologies in the state’s future.
