Townsville City Council has rolled out a new tendering system for businesses to secure upcoming work.
VendorPanel will be the platform used by external businesses to submit tenders and quotes for upcoming projects, respond to queries and provide updates to registered suppliers.
Business Services and Finance Committee chairperson Margie Ryder said the change to a new platform would make the tendering process more user-friendly service and efficient.
“This new platform will make the tendering process even more streamlined and easy to access for our local businesses, ensuring we can reach our procurement targets and continue supporting the local economy,” Cr Ryder said.
“It also allows our registered suppliers access to tenders for neighbouring councils and upcoming State and Federal agency panels ensuring that they have the opportunity to secure work across the region.”
Cr Ryder said Council is looking to increase local spend even more this financial year.
“Council’s total expenditure reached almost $270 million last financial year and 85 per cent of that was with local businesses,” she said.
“Our goal for the next five years is to reach 90 per cent of our procurement spend with local businesses and 65 per cent with small to medium size businesses.
“I’d really encourage businesses to register with VendorPanel on our website so they can keep an eye on our upcoming panels and tenders to see if something suitable opens.
“It is free to register with VendorPanel and allows registered suppliers to view all open tenders, panel arrangements and requests for quotes and also allows them to submit queries and receive responses from Council.”
