Penrith Lakes to Become Recreational Fishing Hub by 2028

A $5 million investment has been announced to transform parts of the Penrith Lakes complex into a dedicated recreational fishing park. The project, scheduled for completion in 2028, aims to open previously inaccessible areas of the parklands to the public for the first time. Two artificial waterbodies will be converted into family-friendly lakes designed to provide safe and accessible fishing opportunities for residents of Western Sydney.

To support the initiative, more than 200 Australian native Bass fish have been released as part of a stocking program. The development includes walking tracks, car parks, fishing platforms with disabled access ramps, fish cleaning tables, waste bins, seating areas, restrooms, and picnic facilities. This project responds to community consultation priorities outlined in the Enhancing Recreational Fishing Action Plan and follows the recent opening of Penrith Beach, which has attracted nearly 450,000 visitors since late 2023.
