NSW public transport users can now experience a smoother journey with the introduction of Express Mode for Apple Pay, a major upgrade to the Opal ticketing system. This enhancement allows users to tap and go without having to unlock their iPhone or Watch.
Transport for NSW has implemented a phased rollout of Express Mode across the extensive Opal network, starting with ferries and light rail, followed by train stations, and concluding with the rollout to thousands of Opal readers on buses this week.
Express Mode for Apple Pay is compatible with iPhone and Apple Watch running iOS 16.4 or later. To use this feature, users must add their card to Apple Pay and select an Express Travel Pass card in Settings.
