A new strategy has been launched to strengthen Tech Central as Australia’s leading innovation district. The six square kilometre precinct, stretching across Haymarket, Camperdown and South Eveleigh, is home to many of the country’s top technology companies, startups and research institutions.
Tech Central already hosts global names such as Atlassian, Block, Canva, Safety Culture and Rokt. It is also supported by major universities and research centres, with Sydney holding around 35 per cent of Australia’s tech workforce.
The new Tech Central Economic Development Strategy outlines a shared vision for the district. It focuses on collaboration between industry, universities and government to boost research, investment and innovation. The plan also considers housing, creative industries and the visitor economy to create a vibrant and inclusive precinct.
An initial $5 million has been allocated to attract investment and establish new governance structures. This will ensure that businesses, educators and local communities work together to guide the area’s development.
Tech Central is designed to be a place where people can live, work and create. The goal is to build a world-class innovation hub that continues to attract talent and inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.
