New Strategy Aims to Commercialize Queensland Research and Ideas

A new 15-year plan titled "Ideas into Impact: From discovery to delivery" has been released to strengthen the commercialization of scientific research and innovations in Queensland. Unveiled during National Science Week, the strategy focuses on connecting researchers, startups, investors, and businesses to move discoveries from the laboratory to the market.

Key components of the strategy include the establishment of a Q Futures Conference, a Ministerial Science and Innovation Advisory Council, an Office of Commercialisation, and a coordinated "Team Queensland" approach. Additionally, a new Chief Innovator role has been created to replace a previously vacant position, aiming to streamline support for entrepreneurs.

The government has committed an additional $22 million to assist in moving discoveries toward commercial success. A separate STEM Engagement Grants Program is also underway, offering grants of up to $25,000 for activities that encourage participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Applications for these grants closed on September 29.
