A major renewable energy project in Victoria’s southwest, the $700 million Mortlake Energy Hub, is set to provide clean, affordable power to local households. The development will combine a 360-megawatt solar energy facility with a 300-megawatt battery energy storage system, generating enough power to supply 140,000 homes and reduce carbon emissions by 41.4 million tonnes annually.
The project is expected to create around 300 construction jobs and will leverage the existing Mortlake Terminal Station for energy storage, releasing solar power into the grid when needed. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to accelerate the rollout of renewable energy projects and enhance the state’s energy resilience.
The Mortlake Energy Hub aligns with Victoria's ambitious renewable energy goals, aiming for 65% renewable energy generation by 2030 and 95% by 2035, along with energy storage targets of 2.6 gigawatts by 2030 and 6.3 gigawatts by 2035. The development of renewable energy infrastructure is projected to create thousands of jobs and contribute billions to the economy while supporting the state's path to net-zero emissions by 2045.
